Single Sided Stockframe Signs
You will need:
Stockframe: Pick your profile
Panel:
Choose either 5mm or 10mm foam or 3mm aluminium composite
Time:
Approx 45 minutes to make
Preparation
1.Cut your board to the required size, making sure it’s completely
square.
Tip: By measuring diagonally across corner to corner twice, you will be
able to check if its square – both distances should be exactly the same.
Please note: If you are framing a 5mm thick board, remove the excess
return on the stockframe profile at the break off point on the profile
before proceeding to cut your mitres.
2.Before cutting your mitres, place a thin strip of foam packing under the
taped side of the profile covering the full length of the area being cut.
This ensures that the frame remains square and you will get accurate
mitres. The packer will be either 5mm thick if the break off point has
been removed or 10mm thick if not removed. Ideally, the packer should
be wide enough to cover the entire area of the taped area.
3.Proceed to cut mitred lengths of frame which will need to be 2.5mm

longer than the edge of the board it is going along. i.e. if the board size
is 600mm x 600mm, cut 4 pieces at 602.5mm long
Tip: If your board is not a square, cut the lengths in pairs - it is faster
and more accurate e.g. if the board size is 600mm x 1000mm, cut 2 x
10mm
packer
602.5mm and 2 x 1002.5mm.
Applying your pre-cut pieces to the board
Hold your first mitred piece of framing up to the side of the board in a central position and use it to check its alignment
with the next piece which it joins up against. It should be sticking out slightly over the corner. You can use this method
to check all mitres align correctly before finally removing the tape liner and sticking them down.
When applying them to the board, apply them with a light pressure until every corner aligns, then push down finally
by hand.
