Temperature is becoming more important all of the time. Today’s advanced car wrap
films need heat to stretch and shrink, but too much heat can affect the adhesive. So
for reliable, long lasting adhesion professional wrappers use laser pointing surface
temperature readers. What matters is how hot the car wrap film is.
Heat can be used to make pressure sensitive vinyl conformable around curves, rivets
and other irregular surfaces.
Post heat is also a critical step when doing vehicle wraps to help “set” the vinyl.
Direct heat should especially be applied to areas where the vinyl has been stretched.
Slowly move the heat source across these areas approximately one inch (25mm) every
two to three seconds. Always check the manufacturer’s spec sheet first as the desired
temperature varies between materials.
This technique relaxes the stress on the vinyl caused by stretching, which will help
prevent lifting and tenting.
